Miniaturized broadband monopole antenna in 130nm CMOS with gain improvement

This paper presents a miniaturized broadband monopole AOC (antenna on chip) for W-band. The miniaturization is achieved by hexagonal grid at the top layer M6 and capacitive AMC (artificial magnetic conductor) bottom M1 based 130nm CMOS process. First, reflection phase of different modes analyzed using electromagnetics simulation. Secondly, axial size with further reduced 16.2% (compared to straight antenna AMC) grid, impedance optimized analyzing angle. proposed has 367um×194.2um (0.1?0×0.052?0) 81GHz. Measurements show that an bandwidth 31.5% (75-103GHz) peak gain -0.35dBi 85GHz. smallest reported can be applied W-band FMCW radar system chip.
